Annotation
One of the most important things to do to make our archives better is to annotate photos. Some might think that means creative or technical descriptions, but I say please don't think that. Instead think about identifying people in the photos for our database so that the "peeps" pages can assemble all the good photos we have for each person. Remember there are both "Art" (big) and "Web" (smaller) versions of photos. Annotation is done in the "Stroud" folders, not in the "StroudArt" folders (same for "House" or "Cox" or "Youngs"). Each page of photos in "Stroud" has on the end of the menu of links at the top of the page one called "ImgInfo". If you click on "ImgInfo" a spreadsheet will come up (in Excel if it is installed) with a row for each image and a column for four fields: Filename, Subject, Comment, and Text. You mustn't change the first column (Filename) and I suggest you avoid the last two. The need is to put the names of people (actually "aliases") in the Subject field. Multiple names must be separated by semi-colons or ampersand, not commas. (Commas won't work because sometimes comma comes before "Jr." and also because the file is stored in comma delimited format.) Please use aliases that are on our list of "aliases". It is OK to make up new aliases so long as they don't conflict with existing ones. Please tell Carl if you make up a new alias.
Adding names to the Subject field is a bit tricky because you must know the Filename. The easiest way to do that is to have two windows open. I make the window in the left show images & their names and the one on the right is the spreadsheet into which I want to enter new data. There are several ways to show images and filenames in the left window.
